IAHC seeks to facilitate veterinary professionals to use their profession for the benefit of the world with a special emphasis on areas with limited resources. Our volunteers are loosely connected through this network and their work in one country can be vastly different from that in another.
Professional work:
• Guest lectures at a university/veterinary college
• Grass roots work with indigenous people to improve livestock production
• Training farmers, extension agents, veterinarians in new techniques for animal health
• Consulting on livestock breeding or purchasing.
Typical time commitments can vary from one week to six months or even longer in some cases. The host is responsible to provide information and resources that enable our volunteers to secure appropriate visas.
International Animal Health Consultants is a voluntary network of North American veterinary professionals who are willing and able to volunteer their services to organizations in developing countries. Most volunteers are private business owners and employees and do this during their 2-3 week
vacation time. A few are available for longer periods of time. Because they are volunteers, the host partner organization is responsible for organizing the activities and support for the volunteer(s) while they are in country.
Typical volunteer service might include being a guest lecturer at a veterinary university, assisting at a grassroots farmer training in animal health, consulting with a non-profit involved in livestock projects, or public health projects.
